Founded in September 2011 in downtown Cumberland, Mr. Toad's Pottery has been a beacon of artistic expression in the heart of Western Maryland. Since its humble beginnings, our pottery studio has undergone a remarkable journey of growth and transformation.

In the summer of 2019, Mr. Toad's Pottery embarked on an exciting new chapter when it was acquired by our current owner, Ferne Benson. With a vision to create a thriving creative hub, the studio was relocated to its current home in the LaVale Shopping Center, nestled amidst the breathtaking Appalachian mountains of Western Maryland.

In this 6,000 square foot space, Mr. Toad's Pottery has flourished, allowing us to expand and enhance our offerings. Our main paint-your-own pottery and colorbook canvas studio now boasts ample seating for up to 100 painters, providing a vibrant and spacious environment for creativity to thrive. Additionally, our event studio comfortably accommodates 34 painters, catering to groups seeking a unique and inspiring experience.

As we continue to evolve, we are excited to share our next chapter of growth. Mr. Toad’s Pottery is expanding into a second location in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, located in Wayne Plaza, with an anticipated opening later in 2026. This new 4,000 square foot studio will bring all of the experiences you’ve grown to love from our LaVale location to a new community. Guests will enjoy a large walk-in studio—no reservations needed—to paint pottery and canvas at their own pace, along with the addition of a 24-hour pottery studio designed for creatives who crave flexibility and independence in their artistic journey.

Back in LaVale, we are also continuing to grow our offerings, including the exciting addition of our clay studio. This space offers wheel throwing and clay handbuilding, providing yet another avenue for artistic exploration and mastery.
