Mr. Toad's Pottery is a small, local, female-owned modern art studio located in LaVale, MD. Our customers enjoy creating fine arts in our fun, relaxing & clean studio. We offer pottery painting, colorbook canvas for walk in painting.  Other mixed media, canvas, candles, stoneware and clay art mediums are offered at workshops. We also offer parties for all occasions, custom painting, kids classes, summer camps, special events and much more.

We work as a team to assist our customers and strive to provide a fun environment for families and friends to create art together. Team members are trained to assist guests in a friendly efficient manner, work with glazes and design tools, teach techniques, teach customers how to use all of our tools to facilitate their art, host fun birthday parties & events, glaze pottery and operate kilns. Team members are expected to work hard, but have fun doing it!

Do you love art, working with people, and creating memorable experiences?

Mr. Toad's Pottery is looking for enthusiastic, outgoing Art Assistants to help guests discover their creativity in a fun, welcoming environment. As an Art Assistant, you'll be much more than a cashier—you'll be a creative guide, encouraging guests of all ages as they paint pottery, create keepsakes, celebrate special occasions, and make lasting memories.

What You'll Do

As an Art Assistant, you'll help create an exceptional experience for every guest by:

👉Greeting guests with a warm, friendly attitude and helping them choose the perfect project
👉Explaining painting techniques, tools, and studio processes
👉Encouraging creativity while answering questions throughout each guest's visit
👉Assisting guests with pottery painting, canvas painting, mosaics, candles, clay impressions, resin projects, and other studio experiences
👉Mixing paints, stocking supplies, and keeping workstations clean and organized
👉Processing guest transactions accurately through our point-of-sale system
👉Helping prepare projects for glazing, firing, and pickup
👉Answering phones and assisting guests with reservations, parties, and class information
👉Assisting with birthday parties, camps, workshops, and special events
👉Working together with the team to maintain a clean, organized, and inviting studio
👉Helping guests leave with smiles, confidence, and memories they'll want to share

Hours & Compensation

Flexible part-time scheduling
Opportunities for additional hours during busy seasons, camps, and special events
Starting pay is based on experience
Eligible for participation in our team tip-sharing program after the introductory training period

We're Looking For Someone Who...

Has a positive, upbeat personality and enjoys working with people
Loves art and creativity—even if you don't consider yourself an artist
Is patient, encouraging, and enjoys helping guests of all ages
Works well in a team while also taking initiative independently
Is dependable, organized, and attentive to detail
Learns quickly and enjoys a fast-paced environment
Communicates clearly and professionally
Is willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and school breaks as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Previous customer service, waitressing or retail experience is a plus
Experience working with children is helpful
Experience with art, ceramics, or crafting is preferred but not required—we'll teach you everything you need to know
Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and stay active throughout the shift
