Mr. Toad's Pottery is a small, local, female-owned modern art studio located in LaVale, MD. Our customers enjoy creating fine arts in our fun, relaxing & clean studio. We offer pottery painting, colorbook canvas for walk in painting.  Other mixed media, canvas, candles, stoneware and clay art mediums are offered at workshops. We also offer parties for all occasions, custom painting, kids classes, summer camps, special events and much more.

Position Descriptions and Minimum Requirements

All applicants should be fun, friendly, positive, energetic, eager to learn, share and work hard. Absolutely no art or ceramics experience is required. Hopper

Hoppers are speedy cleaners that keep the studio in tip top shape. Once pottery has been cleared from the table, a hopper hops into action by cleaning, sanitizing and resetting the table for the next artists to arrive. They then clean, refill and put away the supplies. They are also responsible for keeping the studio floors clear of debris and paint splatters and making sure that all studio spaces are kept fresh and clean. Must be 16+, no previous experience needed. This is not a seasonal position. We always accept applications for this position, but only look to hire when necessary. Weekly Hours: 4-16 per week after training depending on needs of the studio/applicant, focused on Fri/Sat/Sun shifts.

Art Assistant

Assists and educates visitors on a variety of creative mediums (ceramics, mosaic, clay, canvas, mixed media), gives attentive customer service, cleans the studio and supplies, receives stock, stocks shelves, completes fire tickets, rings visitors up at state of the art POS, runs workshops and parties for kids and adults, and generally contributes to the studio goal of providing a friendly, welcoming, and fun atmosphere to create.

 

In addition to the above, some Art Assistants open/close the studio and point of sale system independently, glaze ceramics, and assist in general studio operations. They may help lead classes, workshops, or events and assist in staff training as needed. Must be 16+, regular weekday, weekend and holiday/break availability required, previous retail/restaurant experience a plus. This is not a seasonal position. We always accept applications for this position, but only look to hire when necessary. Weekly Hours: 10-25 per week after training depending on needs of the studio/applicant, focused on Fri/Sat/Sun shifts.

 

Lead Art Assistant

In addition to the above, these staff members open/close the studio independently and hold a key to the studio, may glaze and fire ceramics, and oversee daily studio and staff operations. They teach/lead classes, workshops, or events and assist in staff training as needed.  Must be 18+, regular weekend and evening availability, one year of retail, restaurant, or customer service experience required. May grow into an Assistant Manager position for the right person. Weekly Hours: 20-35 per week after training, dependent on the needs of the studio/employee. The average Lead Art Assistant works ~25 hours with one or two regular M-F shifts, plus a combination of rotating weekend shifts. Weekend availability is required.

Studio Assistant Manager

In addition to all above, Assistant Managers maintain and supervise smooth day to day operations of the studio, manage and train staff, answer emails and handle customer service issues, assist in the running and planning of events, may paint samples, meet regularly with Management to provide feedback and discuss studio and staff issues. Other responsibilities may arise depending on the studio’s needs. Must be 18+, two years of retail/restaurant or customer service experience required, with a minimum of one year in a managerial role. Weekly hours: ~35 depending on studio needs spread across ~five shifts per week. Variety of daytime/evening weekday shifts with weekend availability required (minimum 5 Sat/Sun shifts per month).
